Foreign investments…ETF question?

I am thinking about investing in an ETF in either Japan or Canada index. since ETFs are traded in US, how does the value go up or down? Does it depend on US market or foreign market? Also, if the dollar currency goes up or down, how does it work for the ETF?

The value of an ETF goes up or down depends on the stocks which make up the ETF. Most ETF’s are comprised of stocks sold on the US markets (NYSE, AMEX, NASDAQ) a break down of stocks held by the ETF should be availiable. I’m not sure about the dollar currency though. My thought is if more dollars to buy the same amount of yen or canandian dollars then that should count.
